Kevin Costner’s New Western Movie Continues An Exciting Release Trend For Warner Bros 2024

Kevin Costner’s favourite genre is definitely Westerns. The Oscar-winning director’s next Western (DANCES WITH WOLVES) is his ambitious four-part Western, starting with HORIZON: AN AMERICAN SAGA. The first two films are scheduled to be released two months apart this summer. The trailer was released on Monday, giving us a sneak peek at the movie Kevin Costner has been waiting for for over 30 years.

Starring, written and directed by Kevin Costner, HORIZON also stars Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Jena Malone, Danny Huston, Michael Rooker, Will Patton, Giovanni Ribisi and The Stranger. Many familiar faces appear, including Jamie Campbell Bower, the villain from “Things.”

Set during four years of the Civil War (1861-1865), Costner explores the frontiers of the Wild West and a bloody journey through a torn country.

The filmmaker and actor is known for his work on such classics as Blazing Saddles, Silverado, Open Range and Dances with Wolves, as well as Hatfield & McCoy’s (2012). series, and the modern western Yellowstone. .

So why would he make a four-part Western? “There are a lot of bad Westerns,” Costner says. He explains that most westerns are “oversimplified” because they focus on pop-up cities where strangers or villains come to save something. Although he didn’t name any movies, this plot pretty much sums up most Westerns.

While most westerns focus on men, director HORIZON has revealed that his new film will focus on women. “Women had shorter lifespans,” he says. Life outdoors was difficult for everyone, especially women, who had to struggle in harsh conditions. “They were made to work to death,” he says.

DANCES WITH WOLVES as well as Indians. “Native Americans were defeated as they migrated west,” he says of the 200-year march across the United States.

Costner understands how ambitious his HORIZON story is. He admits that he had a hard time pitching the film to studios.

“No one wanted to do the first one, so I had the bright idea to do four more. I don’t know what’s wrong with me.”

He says he’s a “stubborn guy” and funded the first two chapters himself. He headed to Utah and spent 52 days filming the film. By comparison, his Oscar-winning film DANCES WITH WOLVES took almost twice as long to make, at 106 days. He believes that advances in technology are due to faster processing.

Audiences finally get to see Costner’s HORIZON, and although Costner admits it wasn’t easy to capture the moment in the three-minute trailer, he hopes the trailer will pique the interest of moviegoers. It is said that they are doing so. Ultimately, he hopes the HORIZON story creates a personal connection with viewers.

“Can you feel certain things in this movie? Because we want people to feel in the dark and be absorbed in it. Let’s take a ride. What happens when the lights go out? We all know that something is either good. Something average. Or something great. I hope that when they see this movie, it will remain in their hearts forever (Chapter 2).

Costner began his own journey with the production of HORIZON: AN AMERICAN SAGA in 1988. The original title was SIDEWINDER, but Costner submitted the script under his son’s name, and like his other projects, he submitted the script under the name HORIZON to avoid imitators. .

“At one point in my career, it seemed like people were copying some of my movies, whether it was Robin Hood or a few Robin Hoods or Wyatt. All of a sudden there were a few Wyatt Years, whether it was Earp or whatever, and I commissioned this western. However, I don’t want anyone to interfere with what I’m trying to do. ”

Even if the name was a ruse, the HORIZON title stuck. After working on the project for 30 years, he came to the conclusion that the word “Horizon” best suited the film’s story.

“The more I think about it, the more I appreciate the dream of going west. It’s always about getting out.”

Costner says the term is synonymous with the goals each person sets for themselves. It added.

Horizon: An American Saga, the new Western directed by Kevin Costner, continues Warner Bros.’ exciting release trend. Shortly after Costner’s controversial exit from Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone, the highly acclaimed actor returned to his passion for writing and directing films of epic scope. Most notably, Costner starred in and directed 1990’s Dances with Wolves, the epic Western that won him his two Oscars. Since then, Costner has found success behind the camera, but few of his projects were as ambitious as his two-part Horizon saga.

The Emmy and Golden Globe award-winning actor is also writing and producing a new Western, which epitomizes the term “passion project.” Horizon Chapter 1 is set during the Civil War and the era of westward expansion of the United States, and is scheduled to be released in theaters on June 28, 2024. It’s perhaps surprising that viewers won’t have to wait years for the second part of Costner’s Horizon saga. Horizon Chapter 2 will be released in theaters on August 16, 2024, just a few weeks after its initial screening. However, the theatrical release date for the two-parter isn’t the only interesting thing about Horizon’s release strategy.
